Game Preview February 28th

Feb 25, 2025

(WAUSAU, WI)- Wausau will look to close out the month of February with a perfect 7-0 record at Marathon Park Friday night. Wausau 31-10-2-1 (65 points) will play host to the Rochester Grizzlies 28-11-3-2 (61 points) for the first time since January 4th. Heading into Friday night Wausau and Rochester have spilt the first six games of the season series. Both teams have scored 22 goals in the six games. Wausau can clinch the number 2 seed in the Division Semifinal of the NA3HL Playoffs this weekend with a regulation or overtime win over Rochester. That would mean the Cyclones would have home ice advantage in the Division Semifinal versus Rochester. Wausau still has an opportunity to win the Central Division title. It would require that Wausau wins all three of the remaining regular season games and a regulation or overtime loss by West Bend this weekend against Peoria or next Friday versus Wisconsin. If both Wausau and West Bend happen to finish the regular season tied with 71 points the Cyclones would own the first tiebreaker by having more wins.

Player to Watch

Cyclones defenseman Easton Plachetka is on verge of breaking the franchise record for most games played. Plachetka will tie former Clones forward Dylan Chapman with 128 career games played Friday and can break it at home March 7th versus Rochester. Plachetka has had another solid season, while leading all defenseman with 21 points and helping Wausau give up the 8th least goals scored in the NA3HL this season.

Between the Pipes

Wausau is expected to start Tanner Bonjernoor in net this weekend. Bonjernoor has a 2.37 GAA and .920 save percentage in 26 games.
