(WAUSAU, WI) – Wausau will take on Rochester this weekend at Marathon Park with the Clones needing a pair of regulation wins to keep their hopes alive for getting home ice advantage in the first round of the NA3HL playoffs. The season series is tied at three games; Wausau enters the weekend 24-18-1-0 (49 points) and Rochester is 26-16-1-0 (53 points) good for 2nd place in the division with just four games remaining in the regular season. If Wausau wins both games this weekend that would secure the all-important season series tiebreaker should the teams finish with the same number of points at the end of the regular season. This weekend puck drops at 7:10pm on Friday and Saturday from Marathon Park on NAHLTV.
What to Watch For
Defenseman Joel Anderson has had a remarkable first junior hockey season in Wausau. His 39 points ranks 11th among 339 NA3HL defenseman. Anderson ranks 16th in goals (9) and 11th in assists (30). In addition, Anderson has 10 power play assists, which is good for 14th among defensemen. He trails just Jackson Schroeder (59 points) and Eiji Hoffmann (47 points) for the team leader in points. Prior to Saturday’s pointless output he had gotten on the scoresheet in 7 of his last 9 games. He has just 16 games where he didn’t contribute points and six of those came before November 2nd.
Between the Pipes
Wausau is projected to split time between Brady Faille and Tanner Bonjernoor in net this weekend. Faille has a 2.59 GAA in 21 games. Bonjernoor has a 3.42 GAA in 17 games with a .901 save percentage. In three games this season versus Rochester Bonjernoor he has a 3.33 GAA and Faille has a 2.00 GAA in four games versus the Grizzlies.
