Wausau WI- RiverWolves took on the Coulee Region Chill Friday evening at Marathon Park Ice Arena in the first matchup of the season versus their Central Division foe.  The game itself was a game of runs as Wausau jumped out early only to watch the Chill attempt a comeback.  The first period was full of shots as Coulee outshot Wausau nearly by a 2:1 margin.  However, it was RiverWolves forward Tanner Eskro who scored his third of the season at the 13:27 mark in the first that put Wausau 1-0 after one period.

In the second, the shots began to even out some as Coulee outshot the RiverWolves by just three.  Still, the same trend continued as the RiverWolves were the ones to find the back of the net.  At the 1:27 mark of the period, Kasey Couture notched his first goal of the year to put Wausau up 2-0.  Ian Raddatz joined the scoring party as he added his first tally of the year to extend the RiverWolves’ lead to 3-0 at the 6:19 point in the period.  Coulee then switched out their goalie Gunnar Snyder in favor of Devin Naidow as they tried to slow down the RiverWolves.  The Chill were able to somewhat slow the momentum when their own Marco Escobar scored his third goal at the 13:03 mark.

The third period started out with a bang as each team scored within the first five minutes of action.  Coulee scored its second 17 seconds in courtesy of Sam VanderHoeven.  Wausau was able to respond at the 4:25 mark thanks to Jared Meyer etching his name into the score sheet.   The win improves Wausau to 1-5-1 while the Coulee Region Chill drop to 2-4 on the young season.

RiverWolves goaltender Tyler Klatt stopped 56 of 58 shots and received the victory.  Coulee used two goalies over the course of the game as Devin Naidow relieved starter Gunnar Snyder.  Snyder stopped 14 of 17 shots and took home the loss.  Naidow stopped 21 of 22 in relief duty.
