(WAUSAU, WI)- RiverWolves hockey is headed to Peoria, Illinois, to take on the Mustangs for a two-game series this weekend. The RiverWolves are looking to bounce back from their loss last time out against Rochester and put another tally in the win column. Wausau is currently 0-2 vs Peoria, losing 4-0 and 7-3 respectively on the weekend of November 20th, and is hoping to even the score after this weekend at 2 games apiece. Peoria is currently 2nd in standings at 13-5, only behind the Rochester Grizzlies. The games have a start time of 7:15 pm on Friday and 6:45 on Saturday.

What to Watch For

Early in the season, the RiverWolves traded for Caeden Phelps, a native of Eagan, MN, and have gotten an immediate impact from him. In his first game he scored both an assist and a goal and is now sitting at 3 goals and 3 assists total through 10 games. Caeden was the lone goal scorer last time out vs Rochester.

The Mustangs boast a 13-5 record and are currently riding a 2-win streak. Peoria is led by a trio of forwards, Connor Bennett, of Rochester, IL, Reid Lune, of Edwards, IL, and Ethan Chesney, of Elgin, IL. All three forwards are averaging 0.89 points per game, with Bennett having 9 goals and 7 assists, Chesney with 8 goals and 8 assists, and Lune 6 goals and 10 assists.

Between the Pipes

Joseph La Forge, native of Kenosha, and Caleb Sauer, from Waupun, WI, are expected to split time in goal this weekend for the RiverWolves. La Forge has turned back 402 of 455 shots so far this year for an 88.4% save percentage. The RiverWolves recently acquired Caleb Sauer from the SIJHL Thief River Falls Norskies, and he boasted a 90% save percentage in 21 games.

The Mustangs are expected to start Cole Walter in net this weekend, who was the NA3HL Goaltender of the month for November. Walter is a native of Rochester, MN, and has a 93% save percentage.

Up Next

The RiverWolves will play a home and home against Milwaukee starting in Mequon on Friday, January 15th before coming home to finish the series at Marathon Park. The games are slated for 7:00 pm and 7:10 pm, respectively.
