(Wausau, WI)- The Wausau RiverWolves travel to Oregon, Wisconsin to take on the Wisconsin Whalers for a rare Wednesday night match-up. The puck drops at 8:00 p.m. tonight on HockeyTV. Currently the RiverWolves are in sixth place in the Central Division with 5-10-1 record.  Wisconsin is fourth with a record of 9-10-0. In game one of six versus Wisconsin this season back on November 3rd, the RiverWolves fell by a final score of 4-2.

What to watch for

Look for Tanner Eskro to make an impact on the game tonight, as he continues to show growth in his game in recent weeks. Eskro recorded a goal at the 14:33 mark of the third period, which brought the RiverWolves within one goal of the Power last Saturday.  This season Eskro holds eight points to his name with 6 goals and 2 assists.

Sam Hanson and Luke Hefty are the top point getters for the Whalers.  The pair has 36 and 23 points respectively.  Hanson has contributed 12 goals and 24 assists for the Whalers. Hanson received a call-up to NAHL back in October and has 1 point in 4 career games at that level. Hefty currently has 4 goals and 19 assists to his name within 19 games.

Between the Pipes

RiverWolves goaltender Alex Gilev is expected to start for the RiverWolves who currently holds a 4-6 record. In his first junior hockey season with the RiverWolves, he holds a save percentage of .920 and a goals against average of 3.26.  Last weekend, he held the Central Division leading Milwaukee Power’s high-octane offense to 3 and 4 goals.

Kai Tomita of the Whalers will be expected to start.  The Japan native holds a 4-7 record.  This season he has a save percentage of .871 and a goals against average of 5.55.  The last time he played was against the Power where he recorded a 9-1 loss on November 21st.  He only played 40 minutes of hockey in relief for fellow netminder Caleb Sauer.
